This collection brings together year, state and breed wise data on livestock animals and poultry birds in India from 1951 to 2022, sourced from the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics published by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. It covers the production of key livestock and poultry products such as milk, meat, eggs and wool, along with related indicators like per capita availability, numbers of animals slaughtered for meat, and land under pastures and grazing. The collection also includes data on livestock infrastructure and services, such as veterinary hospitals, clinics, first aid centres, breeding and hatching farms, and artificial insemination facilities. In addition, the datasets provide information on the contribution of livestock, poultry, agriculture and allied sectors to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross Domestic Value Added (GVA). The livestock animals and poultry birds covered include cattle, bovine, buffaloes, sheep, goats, mules, donkeys, pigs, camels, horses, yaks, hen, chicken, quail, turkey, duck, ducklings, emu and other related species.
