Year and State wise Gross Fiscal Deficit, Revenue Deficit, Revenue expenditure and Primary Deficit

The dataset contains Year and State wise Gross Fiscal Deficit, Revenue Deficit and Primary Deficit Gross Fiscal Deficit: Gross Fiscal Deficit is the excess of total government expenditure (both revenue and capital) over total non-borrowed receipts (like revenue receipts and non-debt capital receipts).It reflects the total borrowing requirement of the government for that fiscal year. Revenue Deficit: Revenue Deficit is the excess of revenue expenditure over revenue receipts. It indicates that the government’s regular income is not enough to cover its regular (day-to-day) expenses.A revenue deficit implies the government is borrowing not just for investment but also to meet routine expenses. Revenue expenditure: Revenue expenditure is government spending on routine, recurring expenses that do not create assets, such as salaries, pensions, interest, and subsidies. Primary Deficit: Primary Deficit is the fiscal deficit excluding interest payments. It shows the extent to which the government is borrowing to meet expenses other than interest payments on past debt.This helps gauge how much of the fiscal deficit is due to current expenses rather than past borrowings Note: 1. Minus sign (-) indicates surplus in deficit indicator. 2. Figures in respect of Jammu & Kashmir relate to revised estimates from 2004-05 to 2009-10. 3. Figures in respect of Manipur relate to revised estimates from 2004-05 to 2008-09. 4. Figures in respect of Jharkhand relate to revised estimates from 2004-05 to 2010-11 5. The data includes the Revised Estimates for 2023–24 and the Budget Estimates for 2024–25 6. Figures in respect of Bihar relate to revised estimates from 1990-91 to 1994-95 and 1999-2000 to 2003-04. 7. Figures in respect of Jammu and Kashmir relate to revised estimates from 1990-91 to 1997-98 and 2001-2002 to 2003-04. 8. Figures in respect of Nagaland relate to revised estimates from 1990-91 to 2001-2002. 9. Figures in respect of Manipur relate to revised estimates for 1990-91 and 2001-2002 to 2003-04. 10. Figures in respect of Jharkhand relate to revised estimates for 1990-91 and 2001-2002 to 2003-04. 11. The 'All India' data excludes Delhi and Puducherry for the years prior to 2004–05
