Wetlands: Year- and Wetland-type-wise Decadal Change in Area of Wetlands
The dataset contains year- and wetland-type-wise compiled data on the area of wetlands in the years 2006-07 and 2017-18, along with area of disappeared and newly identified wetlands during the same period. The different types of wetlands covered in the dataset include Lake, Ox-Bow Lake/Cut-Off Meander, High Altitude, Riverine, Natural Waterlogged, Streams, Reservoir/Barrage, Tanks/Ponds, Man Made Waterlogged, Inland Salt Pans, Inland Aquaculture Ponds, Lagoon, Creeks, Sand/Beach, Intertidal Mud Flats, Salt Marshes, Mangrove, Coral Reef, Coastal Salt Pans, Coastal Aquaculture Ponds, etc. Notes: The Net Other Changes in the dataset include the changes in the wetland area occurring due to changes other than occurrence of a new wetland or disappearance of existing wetlands. (i) The positive changes explain that the spreading out of the existing wetlands is greater than the shrinkages and vice versa. (ii) Expansions may be due to conversion of one class of wetland to another, river changing its course, shift in precipitation patterns etc. (iii) The shrinkages of the wetlands may be attributed to conversion of one class of wetland to another, development activities etc. (iv) Further analysis can be attempted with the availability of the change matrix for these categories of wetlands.
