This collection of datasets, extracted from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Crime in India reports, provides a comprehensive end-to-end analysis of the legal journey of crimes against senior citizens. It tracks the entire lifecycle of a case, beginning with police disposal status, documenting investigations, chargesheets submitted, and cases closed due to insufficient evidence or technical grounds (such as Section 157(1)(b) of the CrPC). The data is benchmarked against the Registrar General of India’s Census 2011 population figures to calculate essential metrics like the crime rate and chargesheet rate. The collection offers high granularity by categorising offences under major crime heads, including violent crimes (murder, rape, kidnapping), property offences (theft, robbery, fraud), and crimes specifically targeting elderly women. It further extends to the judicial disposal status, detailing court outcomes such as convictions, acquittals, discharges, and plea bargains. With additional gender-wise data on arrested persons, these datasets serve as a vital resource for policymakers and advocacy groups to evaluate the efficiency of law enforcement and the judicial system in protecting India’s elderly population.
