The collection contains historically compiled master data on the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), as disclosed on the website of NGO-Darpan
The specifics of data contained in the datasets include Year- and District-wise names of NGOs registered in India, along with details such as their Registration Number, including Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration number, the names of places in which they are registered and operating, the funding sources, along with names of the funding agencies, the different fields in which the NGOs are working, etc. The different fields of NGOs work covered in the dataset include Animal Husbandry - Dairying and Fisheries, Children, Civic Issues, Dalit Upliftment, Disaster Management, Drinking Water, Education and Literacy, serving Aged/Elderly, Environment, Health, Family Welfare, Human Rights, Land and Labour, Minority Issues, Nutrition, Prisoner's Issues, Right to Information and Advocacy, Tribal Affairs, etc.
Notes:
1. The NGO-DARPAN started out as an initiative of the Prime Minister's Office, to create and promote a healthy partnership between VOs/NGOs and the Government of India. The Portal is managed at present by NITI Aayog
2. The information provided on the Darpan portal is based on the information which is voluntarily disclosed by the NGOs on the same portal. Therefore, the NGO data provided on the same portal and the datasets is not based on survey, verification, compilation and disclosed by the government, but the information voluntarily disclosed on the website.
3. The names of NGOs and the funding sources in the Raw Data are voluminous in number. Hence, they are provided as they are given in the Raw Data, since it is not possible to standardize them.
